The Advantages of Getting Your Sewer Line Cleaned

10/05/2015

It’s a safe bet that you don’t think about your sewer line that often. That’s all right. You’re not really supposed to devote that much thought to it anyway. Out of sight, out of mind, after all. Here’s the problem, however: even though your sewer system is designed to be low-maintenance, it still needs professional service from time to time. If it doesn’t get that service, you’re going to be creating some pretty nasty problems for yourself. Let’s take a look at why you should have your sewer cleaned every once in a while.

Problems Associated with Lack of Sewer Maintenance

Your sewer line is the pipe that connects your home to the municipal sewer main, or to the septic tank if you use one. Like pretty much all pipes, the sewer line is susceptible to the occasional clog. Waste builds up along the walls of the pipe, slowly restricting the flow of water as it builds towards the center. Finally, the waste buildup completely clogs the pipe and prevents further flow. This can cause sewage to back up into your home’s plumbing, possibly all the way up out of your drains. This causes two problems. First, it is downright disgusting. Second, it contaminates pipes in your home that are meant to only handle fresh water. Your entire plumbing system will have to be cleaned out to remove the contamination.

Getting Your Sewer Line Cleaned

You should have your sewer line cleaned out at least once a year, in order to prevent problems like those listed above. Regular sewer line cleaning not only helps to prevent clogs and other issues, but it increases the efficiency of your sewer system.
